Olipop Sparkling Tonic

Product Review

Every time I think of this drink, I get the lollipop song stuck in my head! This is by far the catchiest product name I’ve ever seen.

Olipop! *pop*

Currently, I’m obsessed with flavored sparkling water, so when I saw this new plant-based sparkling tonic, I knew I had to try it. Obviously, the name is my favorite part, but they also have several exciting flavors. These drinks are perfect for anytime of the day. Each can is packed full of plant-powered ingredients, including plant-fiber, botanicals and prebiotics. Olipop drinks are made to help support digestive and immune health, which is a great way to help your stomach’s microbiome, all while increasing your hydration. All of the flavors are non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan and paleo with only 3-5g of natural sugar per can (no added sugar). Drinking these drinks definitely offer a healthier alternative to soda pops and high sugar juices.

Finding the drink

Finding this drink seemed to be the hardest part. As of right now, I’ve only seen this brand at @Sprouts, @Amazon and through @Imperfect Foods (home-delivery grocery service). It comes in a 12 oz aluminum can usually located in the health juice section near the produce. Usually you will find other cold-pressed juices and drinks in this same section.

Orange Squeeze

Upon opening the can of Orange Squeeze, it popped and fizzed just like a soda and smelled of weak orange juice. As I started pouring the drink into a cup, the light orange color coming out of the can reminded me of water-down OJ with tiny bubbles. The first sip took me back to the ‘good-old days’ – the days when I used to drink soda and not care about what I stuck in my body. It was like drinking an orange soda that’s healthy for my body. It was super smooth to drink; fresh and citrusy; light and refreshing; sweet, but not too sweet; and had excellent carbonation. My husband loved the Orange Squeeze sparkling tonic and said it reminded him of an orange cream soda from his childhood. I didn’t like the orange flavor very much as it tasted a little chemically and was a bit thicker than I would have liked. Luckily, I picked up a can of the Strawberry Vanilla as well!

The Strawberry Vanilla sparkling tonic popped and fizzed just like a soda, but this time smelled of sweet strawberries. As I poured this drink into a cup, I noticed the color was light pink and full of tiny bubbles. From the first sip, I thought I was drinking a strawberry and cream lifesaver – you know the ones we all used to look for in our grandparents house? The vanilla flavor hits the back of your mouth with a rush followed by the sweet essence of red ripe strawberries. I definitely like this flavor better. It was a little thicker consistency – more to my liking. My husband on the other hand said this reminded him of a diet strawberry cream soda and he didn’t care for the chemical taste. Funny how we switched?? I’ll admit though…I’ve always been more of a strawberry-girl anyways!
