Cannabis Fun Fact #12

You cannot physiologically overdose from cannabis

Did you know it is physiologically impossible to overdose from cannabis? 🌱
This has been one of the most controversial topics in cannabis because it is hard to a little hard to fathom. There are federally legal substances, like alcohol & opioids, that cause over 100,000+ overdose deaths every year; but cannabis, that is federally illegal has had ZERO overdose deaths EVER!

This is one of my favorite facts about cannabis! So let’s dig into this…
We all have an endocannabinoid system (ECS). This system consists of endocannabinoids, cannabinoid receptors & various enzymes. The cannabinoid receptors are all throughout our human bodies with a majority of them concentrated in the brain. This system is like a processing center, ensuring all systems are balanced & working. When cannabis is consumed, the chemicals & cannabinoids within it spread into our body’s central nervous system, the brain & any other cannabinoid receptors. Even though it is possible for people to get high to the point of paranoia, anxiety or hallucinations (usually from THC), cannabis does NOT affect or attach to the brainstem like alcohol or opioids. The brainstem is the part of the brain that controls breathing, blood pressure & heart rate. These areas are not affected by cannabis. Plus we, as humans, create our own cannabinoids in our body!

So if you ever consume too much cannabis & you feel anxious or shaky, don’t fret -this feeling will eventually pass & the high will wear off. A few things you can do to help speed the process:

💚Lie down & take a nap
💚Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated
💚Eat some nuts, seeds, avocados or fruit
💚Talk to someone to help calm you down
💚Listen to relaxing music
💚Take some CBD
💚Know you will not die!
